Team Lead, Security & Compliance - Knak, Remote Canada

Role Overview

Knak is actively seeking a dedicated Team Lead, Security & Compliance to join their innovative team in a remote capacity across Canada. This pivotal role involves leading comprehensive programs designed to keep Knak's platform, its valued customers, and the entire company secure. It's a hands-on leadership opportunity where you will operate at the critical intersection of security, compliance, and business enablement.

You will be instrumental in guiding Knak's approach to key security frameworks like SOC 2 and ISO 27001, fostering a strong security awareness culture across the organisation, and collaborating with various teams. Your expertise will ensure that Knak continues to grow rapidly while maintaining robust security measures. As a trusted expert and collaborator, you will help people understand not just what security protocols to follow, but also why they matter, because a secure environment is paramount for success.

Responsibilities

In this dynamic Team Lead position, your core responsibilities will include:

• Managing security and compliance programs effectively.
• Maintaining Knak’s security control framework and overseeing continuous monitoring and remediation efforts.
• Driving security awareness and positive behaviour change throughout the company.
• Educating control owners, delivering essential training, and promoting best practices across the organisation.
• Collaborating extensively with internal and external partners.
• Working closely with product, engineering, leadership, auditors, and vendors to support security workflows.
• Maintaining and continuously improving all security documentation.
• Developing and managing critical policies, standards, procedures, and internal handbooks.
• Supporting Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) activities.
• Monitoring key metrics, contributing to comprehensive reporting, and providing clear visibility into security and compliance health.

Requirements

To excel as a Team Lead, Security & Compliance at Knak, candidates should bring a strong blend of experience and skills, including:

• 3–5 years of experience in security and compliance, with demonstrated leadership or team lead responsibilities.
• A strong understanding of prominent security frameworks such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
• Comprehensive technical and business knowledge across areas like security training, application security, and compliance programs.
• Proven ability to lead change and effectively influence teams across an organisation.
• Strong communication, conflict management, and organisational skills.
• Experience managing people and actively supporting team growth.
• The ability to work cross-functionally and adeptly balance security requirements with broader business needs.

Bonus points for candidates who also possess:

• Security certifications such as CISA or CISM (or are actively working toward them).
• Experience within SaaS or high-growth startup environments.
