The successful candidate for this Senior Life Underwriter position will be responsible for conducting meticulous risk assessment and classification, adhering strictly to Manulife's established philosophy and standards. This involves communicating and collaborating effectively with sales teams and head office colleagues to provide the highest quality and competitive decisions for customers. Maintaining positive and effective relationships with both internal and external partners is paramount, ensuring every interaction is significant to deliver the best customer experience. A strong alignment with consumer laws and regulations regarding risk classification, confidentiality, and disclosure is essential. Identifying and proposing solutions to problems and procedures related to the underwriter's work is also a core expectation. Required qualifications include a minimum of three years of dedicated underwriting experience and a significant life signing authority of $1,000,000+. Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of medical terminology, including physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, imaging, diagnostic testing, and treatments. Furthermore, a strong understanding of how non-medical risks impact mortality, including hazardous occupations, sports, avocations, and lifestyle, is crucial. Experience with financial reports and training in anti-money laundering practices, alongside excellent oral and written communication skills, will be vital for this role. Working towards, or completion of, FALU, FLMI, and ACS designations is also a key requirement, demonstrating a commitment to professional excellence in the underwriting field.
