About the Role

As a Mechanical Designer with WSP's Property & Buildings team in Thornhill, ON, you will play a crucial role in the design and delivery of mechanical systems that support high-performing, sustainable buildings. This opportunity allows you to work closely with senior designers and engineers, contributing to a diverse portfolio of building projects. You will be instrumental in developing detailed models and drawings, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting the technical delivery of mechanical building systems from concept through construction. This role helps shape how people live, work, and connect within communities.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical design drawings using AutoCAD and Revit
  • Support senior designers and engineers in the development of complete drawing packages
  • Design HVAC, plumbing, and fire-protection systems for building projects
  • Perform heating, ventilation, and cooling load calculations
  • Support engineering calculations using relevant design tools and software
  • Coordinate with project teams, external vendors, architects, and engineers
  • Support project delivery through accurate documentation and technical coordination
  • Participate in occasional local travel based on project requirements

Requirements

To succeed as a Mechanical Designer at WSP, candidates should possess a strong foundation in mechanical system design and a collaborative spirit, ready to contribute to innovative building solutions.

  • Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in BIM modelling and mechanical system design
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
  • Experience designing building mechanical systems (healthcare experience is an asset)
  • Understanding of applicable building codes and standards
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision while contributing effectively within a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities
