This Manager, Portfolio & Scenario Analysis position plays a fundamental part within the Personal Insurance Portfolio Management team at Definity, co-leading the central analytical engine required to support the company’s comprehensive portfolio objectives. Reporting to the VP, Personal Insurance Operational & Financial Planning, this role is accountable for overseeing the delivery of timely, high-quality portfolio performance monitoring, insightful generation, precise forecasting, and deep dive analysis. In partnership with other leaders, you will ensure the team provides clear, actionable insights that diagnose performance trends, explain the "why" behind results, and support effective decision making by Regional Portfolio Directors. This role uniquely combines people leadership, analytical excellence, and operational rigour. You will jointly build and oversee a centre of excellence for analytical talent, manage the team’s end-to-end workflow, and partner closely with PI Directors and senior stakeholders to align analytical effort with the most critical business priorities and long-term portfolio strategy. This position offers regular exposure to senior leaders, and you will be expected to confidently form and present portfolio recommendations that influence strategic and tactical decisions across Personal Insurance, ensuring optimal business performance.
Key Responsibilities and Team Leadership
A core responsibility involves overseeing Portfolio Target Setting and Scenario Analysis. You will partner closely with Advanced Analytics, Pricing, and Operations teams to design and build a robust portfolio construction model, incorporating profitability, growth, and risk quality metrics that enable dynamic scenario analysis and informed decision making. This includes directing and reviewing scenario testing and trade-off analysis as required by Portfolio Directors, and preparing data-driven recommendations on portfolio-level targets across products, segments, and regions for the annual planning cycle. You will continuously refine target-setting methodologies, integrating new data, insights, and market dynamics to improve accuracy and decision relevance. Furthermore, you will oversee Deep-Dive Analysis and Strategic Projects, prioritizing and managing a portfolio of analytical projects designed to diagnose root causes of performance trends. Partnering with Regional Portfolio Directors is essential to help frame strategic questions and ensure analysis directly informs portfolio actions and decisions, supporting overall business performance. A significant aspect of this role is to develop and lead a high-performing analytical team, building a centre of excellence for portfolio analytics, and being accountable for the engagement, development, and performance of all PI Portfolio Analysts. This includes providing ongoing coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback to support both technical capability and professional development, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture. You will also manage operational workflow and stakeholder relationships, designing and managing the operational workflow for the centralized analyst team, including project intake, prioritization, capacity planning, and quality control. This involves facilitating a weekly prioritization forum with Regional Portfolio Directors to ensure analytical resources are aligned to the highest-value business needs.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates for this Manager, Portfolio & Scenario Analysis role should possess a university degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field. A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in analytics, portfolio management, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), pricing, actuarial science, or insurance performance analysis is required.
