The City of Ottawa is seeking an enthusiastic Intermediate Arts Instructor to enrich its community recreation and culture programs. The Recreation, Culture and Facilities Services department provides strategic leadership for client-focused programs and manages facilities dedicated to recreational activities. This position is key to ensuring Ottawa's arts, heritage, festivals, and events sectors continue to progress sustainably, offering engaging experiences for 'personnes' of all ages.

As an Intermediate Arts Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching and evaluating creative arts programs designed for children, spanning beginner to intermediate levels. These programs cover a wide array of disciplines, including theatre, dance, music, and visual, literary, and multimedia arts. Key Duties

• Teach and evaluate beginner to intermediate creative arts programs in theatre, dance, music, and visual, literary, and multimedia arts for children.

Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a strong background in the arts and a passion for teaching. The City of Ottawa values both formal education and practical experience in artistic disciplines.

• At least 2 years of university or college studies in fine arts and art history and/or studies in one or more of the following artistic disciplines: theatre, dance, music, and visual, literary or multimedia arts, or equivalent years of experience in arts.
• At least 3 years of experience practicing or teaching in a related artistic discipline.

Additionally, specific certifications and knowledge are required to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all participants.

• Valid General First Aid, CPR, or AED certificate.
• AODA Customer Service/NAI training.
• High Five training course.

Candidates should also demonstrate practical knowledge in several key areas:

• Health and safety training required by law and the City of Ottawa.
• Previous experience in an art teaching environment with people of all ages.
• Excellent knowledge of performance techniques, aesthetic and technical concepts, and program material handling in the taught discipline.
• Working knowledge of general registration and visitor procedures.
• Working knowledge of relevant health and safety laws and City and Departmental health and safety policies and procedures.
