The Opportunity
WSP is a leading global engineering and consulting firm, shaping communities and advancing humanity. We are home to ambitious, passionate, and innovative individuals dedicated to shaping the world. Our global expertise unites to fuel local solutions across Canada and beyond.
Our Environmental Impact Studies and Authorisations team brings together experienced professionals working on provincial and federal impact studies in our offices across Montreal, Trois-Rivières, Quebec City, Jonquière, and Baie-Comeau, or elsewhere in Quebec. We are involved in project development from conception through environmental assessment processes, public consultations, and the implementation of solutions for avoiding, minimising, and compensating for residual environmental impacts. We also play a crucial role in environmental authorisation processes. Due to growing needs and recent legislative changes, we are seeking an intellectually curious Project Director with a strong interest in environmental impact studies and authorisations to join our dynamic team.
Your Impact
As a Project Director, reporting to the National Impact Studies Manager, your primary responsibility will be to lead team projects within the environmental impact assessment and authorisation processes. These projects span the energy, mining, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.
You will direct and implement environmental and social study mandates, working closely with engineering teams and clients to optimise environmental performance and reduce project ecological footprints. Coordinating multidisciplinary teams involved in projects will be a key aspect of your role.
This position involves comprehensive project management, including continuous budget oversight, subcontractor management, and providing regular technical support to clients for problem resolution. You will participate in preliminary site selection studies, including alternative solutions assessments related to the Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations.
Ensuring that all deliverables, including service offers, meet quality standards and are completed on schedule is paramount. You will apply preventative health and safety management from the proposal stage and maintain exemplary health and safety practices throughout project activities. Furthermore, you will participate in working and follow-up meetings with government agencies and clients to negotiate agreements, ensure project invoicing requirements are met, and follow up with clients. Your role will also include leading and contributing to the preparation of service proposals.
What You'll Bring
To succeed in this role, you will possess a relevant second-cycle university degree in the field of impact studies. A minimum of ten years of experience in environmental impact studies is essential.
You must be bilingual in French and English, demonstrating mastery of impact study methodologies specific to Quebec. Expertise in provincial and federal environmental assessment processes and applicable regulations for other types of environmental authorisations in Quebec is also required. We value creativity and innovative approaches.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial for this position. You should also be available for occasional travel related to project execution.
