The opportunity

WSP is seeking an experienced and passionate project delivery leader to join our Earth & Environment team as Director, Project Governance, BC & Yukon. This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead the project management function across one of WSP's largest and most diverse regions. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Earth & Environment, BC & Yukon, you will establish and drive a regional project governance and project management office approach that strengthens consistency, accountability, and delivery performance across a diverse portfolio of environmental engineering projects.

As the leader responsible for project governance, project controls and project management capability, you will oversee our Project Controllers and Project Control Administrators while building the systems, processes, tools and performance rhythms that enable successful project delivery. You will work closely with operational leaders and project teams to improve project outcomes, strengthen commercial performance, enhance project management capability and create a more predictable and disciplined approach to delivering work.

Day-to-day

In this dynamic role across the business, your daily impact will focus on governance, delivery, and performance enhancement.

  • Establish and lead a consistent project governance and controls framework across the BC & Yukon Earth & Environment business, strengthening accountability, discipline and delivery excellence.
  • Drive adoption of project management standards, tools and best practices to improve project execution, predictability, commercial performance and client outcomes.
  • Provide oversight of portfolio health, using performance insights to identify risks, trends and opportunities, and lead reviews or recovery efforts for strategic, high-risk or underperforming projects.
  • Lead and develop Project Controllers and Project Control Administrators, aligning resources and capabilities to provide effective support across the regional portfolio.
  • Build project management capability through practical tools, training, coaching and knowledge sharing, while serving as a trusted advisor to leaders and project teams.
  • Strengthen forecasting, risk management, change management and commercial practices to improve profitability and reduce delivery risk.
  • Partner with operations, finance, commercial, risk and legal teams to align project delivery with regional and national priorities.
  • Lead continuous improvement and lessons learned initiatives, and support strategic pursuits, business planning and key initiatives by ensuring project readiness, governance and delivery risks are effectively considered.

Who we're looking for

We are looking for candidates who bring a blend of strategic vision, commercial acumen, and hands-on project management expertise to our WSP careers network.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification or designation such as PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent project governance, risk, or program management credentials considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in project management, project controls, program oversight, governance, or professional consulting environments.
  • Proven experience overseeing complex, multidisciplinary project portfolios and supporting successful project delivery across diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Strong business acumen, financial literacy, and an ability to translate project performance data into actionable business insights.
  • Experience working with enterprise project and financial management systems, such as Oracle, to support governance, forecasting, and decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with executives, operational leaders, project sponsors, and project teams.
