Canadian Tire is actively seeking a results-oriented data science professional to join their team in Toronto. This two-year contract position is pivotal in supporting the company's extensive retail, loyalty, and customer analytics efforts. The primary focus for this role involves designing and delivering robust analytical measurement frameworks, performing advanced statistical models, and building sophisticated causal inference frameworks. You will be instrumental in conducting in-depth customer and program analytics, with a direct impact on customer engagement, loyalty program optimization, and overall marketing program efficiency. As a Data Scientist, you will develop a deep understanding of Canadian Tire's Retail business, Loyalty programs, Store Operations, and Marketing initiatives. Your responsibilities will include building comprehensive market, store, and user-level test designs, complete with explicit success criteria. You will research statistical methodology to aid in protocol development, including study design and sample size calculation, and contribute to analyses planning. Collaborating within cross-functional teams, you will generate critical insights and test measurement frameworks that enhance business practices and deliver measurable business value. A core part of your role will involve constructing and improving predictive models to reduce test costs and boost result confidence. Furthermore, you will validate, analyze, and investigate test data from multiple perspectives to craft compelling, fact-based narratives. Developing statistical, causal, and machine learning models to improve customer engagement and marketing program performance will be central to your work. Candidates should bring an M.S or PhD, preferably in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline, along with at least three years of experience developing and implementing data science solutions. Experience in retail businesses or loyalty programs is highly preferred. Proficiency in industry-standard programming languages such as Python, R, or SAS, coupled with over three years of experience querying and analyzing large datasets using tools like SQL or Spark, is essential. A demonstrated understanding of statistical techniques to programmatically select and justify the right approach for specific business problems and data/technology constraints is also required. Familiarity with cloud-based data structures, including tools to extract, manipulate, and transform data within the cloud, with experience in Databricks and Azure Synapse being an asset, will be beneficial. Strong communication skills are crucial for interpreting, synthesizing, and presenting complex models and analytics to business partners effectively.
