This is an opportunity for a Contaminated Sites Intermediate Environmental Scientist to join WSP's established Remediation Program Management (RPM) team. The role involves contributing to high-profile projects across Canada, focusing on contaminated site programme management services. The team specialises in health and safety, Phase I/II ESAs, risk assessment, and remediation, with a consistent backlog of projects and strong growth opportunities. This position is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and involves coordinating and conducting fieldwork related to monitoring, investigating, and remediating sites impacted by hydrocarbons, fertilizers, and metals, as well as preparing technical reports.
The successful candidate will prepare and adhere to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate risks for all stakeholders. Responsibilities include project coordination, such as setting up fieldwork programmes, preparing fieldwork instructions, managing budgets and schedules, and overseeing subcontractors. Occasional fieldwork will involve soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment investigations, monitoring programmes, and overseeing site remediation. This role requires active participation in a team environment, closely supporting Project Managers and Field Technicians. The individual will prepare proposals, including developing work scopes, schedules, and cost estimates for senior review, and assist in data collection, compilation, interpretation, and reporting for phased environmental site assessments, remediation, and site monitoring. Preparing technical reports for senior staff review and mentoring junior staff in environmental site assessments are also key aspects of this position.
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in a related science or engineering field. A minimum of one year of experience in contaminated site assessments is required, along with a sound understanding of workplace health and safety procedures and a safety-conscious attitude. Essential experience includes remedial excavation and previous soil and groundwater sampling. Understanding Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba environmental regulations is crucial. A professional designation is preferred, and experience in the oil and gas sector will be considered an asset. Preference will be given to candidates with more extensive experience in soil and groundwater monitoring programmes, Phase I and II environmental site assessments, site remediation, and provincial regulations.
