Amazon Web Services (AWS) is rapidly expanding its operations and is seeking a Data Centre Technician for exciting Amazon jobs in Edmonton. This role is crucial for our growing Infrastructure Operations team in the Edmonton, Alberta area. This position ensures overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels for data centre operations. Responsibilities include computer hardware and network diagnostics, physical repair, and potential participation in an on-call rotation. Successful candidates in Edmonton will demonstrate strong independent work ethic, teamwork, excellent organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to respond quickly. Beyond repairing computer equipment and networks, you will install new equipment, produce documentation, provide innovative solutions, and resolve complex problems within the data centre. This team operates in a 24/7 environment. The successful candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian Personnel Security Clearance to the required level, as a condition of employment. As set out in the Standard on security screening, the personnel security screening assesses an individual's reliability and loyalty to Canada. It involves: the collection of personal information from individuals, with their consent; information from law enforcement, intelligence agencies and other sources. This process includes a variation of verifications based on the level required. These verifications are conducted through Public Service and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and can include, but are not limited to: Verification of identity, citizenship, education, professional credentials, personal and professional references, credit check and/or criminal background check. Individuals may also be required to provide additional information through a security questionnaire and/or in-person/telephone security interview at the request of/conducted by PSPC. To obtain the requisite clearance within required timelines, applicants must have five (5) years of continuous Canadian residency and must not have lived or worked outside of Canada for more than six (6) consecutive months during that time. Key responsibilities for this Edmonton-based role include: - Onsite coverage as a team in shifts and/or weekly on-call rotations - Responding to high-severity events within Service Level Agreements (SLAs) - Participating in Data Centre power and cooling events - Performing break-fix repairs on servers and network devices - Troubleshooting network connections - Coordinating and building relationships with various Data Centre teams - Interacting with third-party vendors and contractors - Continuously seeking ways to improve processes and systems - Contributing to the development of other team members All physical requirements are expected with reasonable accommodations. This includes: - Regularly lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds, and participating in group lifts for 41+ pounds - Ability to work in elevated locations - Ability to work in a 24/7 operational environment with a requirement to participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support as needed - Some travel may be required for these Amazon jobs in Edmonton. Basic Qualifications: - 1+ years of computer hardware experience, including troubleshooting and repairing experience - 1+ years of network and operating system support experience - High school or equivalent diploma - Due to the nature of the role that requires interaction with other Amazon entities globally and with Amazon employees and stakeholders in other provinces in Canada, bilingualism French and English is required for this position.
